I want to update the tail lights on my 87 Lincoln using LED strips. Anyone have any experience or suggestions?

I usually go by the advice about lighting from a friend I met through the Slant Six forum: Dan Stern, who has the following web site:
Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply
I think LED lighting has come along way but, from what I can tell, they're not always the ideal upgrade even though some people swear by them.

I've also seen tail lamps that were modified to replace the bulb with an LED panel but I'm not sure about how well they work. Have you come across anyone trying this modification on Lincoln forum?
